We focus on the most important task of state government: putting together a budget that spends your money. We also take on related issues, including transparency in government, keeping an eye on legislator spending and priorities of spending taxpayer funds. The goal is simple: sustainable budgets with priority-based budgeting, sensible tax policy and ending overpromising and overspending.
Students and parents in Washington State are not getting their money's worth, especially given how much the state spends per pupil. Stagnant test scores and embarrassing graduation rates are the results. We analyze reform efforts and recommend solutions to bring Washington students a World Class education system to meet 21st Century needs.
In every state, and at every level of government, personal property rights (intellectual and real property) are under assault. For that reason, the Freedom Foundation is on a mission to restore an individual’s ability to own private property without fear of unwarranted government encroachment, and teach citizens and government leaders about the paramount role of private property in freedom and prosperity.
The Freedom Foundation works to uphold the liberties of individual workers and reform the way our government handles labor relations. We firmly believe that individual employees should have choices about who represents them in the workplace. Therefore, we work in hopes that no one be forced to pay for political causes they disagree with. Unions should exist to represent employees in the workplace, not to fund political agendas.
“Can’t live with it, can’t live without it.” That often seems to be the relationship between government and freedom. How do we get the government we need to safeguard a free society without that power getting out of hand? We work to ensure that freedom’s vote remains safe and secure and that the first principles of this nation are the blueprint for government.
The Freedom Foundation’s Theodore L. Stiles Center for Liberty advance the rule of law and a legal climate where individuals can exercise their fundamental liberties and government is limited to its proper role. We seek to defend individuals against government encroachments upon their rights; unite lawyers who believe that the purpose of the law is to protect liberty; promote a judiciary that embraces its obligation to interpret the constitution; and expand the public’s understanding of the rule of law. We accomplish these goals through public interest litigation, filing
amicus curiae briefs in state and federal courts, hosting events on significant legal issues, and publishing resources about the state constitution and the state courts.
